Although PWCS is unable to provide instruction or class assignments to students while schools remain closed, our School Division hopes that the suggestions for optional learning activities posted here will help parents support student learning until schools re-open. Please remember that use of these materials and participation in these activities are optional and neither grades nor course credit will be awarded.

Assignment week of May 18:

This week we are going to review Composite Figures (8.10).  I have added a lesson in Study Island.  I also emailed out a Performance Task for Composite Figures, a Project, the SOL Formula Sheet, and some graph paper.  Remember, I am not grading the project.  I am, however, including all the details and rubric for the project as if it were assigned in class.  This is for your information so you can do the best possible job!  Remember, all work is optional.  You can do as much or as little as you want.  I have really enjoyed looking at the projects that have been sent to me.  I have some awesome comics to add to my wall for next year!  It’s not too late to send me past work!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.  I am available on Tuesdays from 9-10:30 and Wednesdays from 12-1:30 on Teams and Email.

Assignment week of May 4:

Happy May!  We are still blessed to have such beautiful weather!  This week I have attached a consumer math project.  You get buy 3 (or more) items of your choice!   You can either complete the project in the Word Document attached or you can copy the tables and complete them on paper.  I would love to see your projects and provide you with feedback!

If you need some review of the topics, you can look in the textbook, Chapter 6.  In Clever, you will click on Big Ideas, then go to Course 3.  You can select which part(s) of chapter 6 you would like to review.  I have also activated a lesson in Study Island.  Finally I selected a lesson in DreamBox to support the Consumer Math unit.  The files for this lesson can be found in the file section.

I will be online Tuesday from 9-10:30 and Wednesday from 12-1:30.  You can find me either on Teams or email me.

Assignment week of April 20
:

Good morning!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a good language arts session yesterday!  Today I have posted two Study Island lessons and a NearPod lesson.  These lessons are Proportions and Consumer Math.  I will be on Teams today from 9-10:30 if you have questions while you are working on your assignment.  I am also always accessible through email.  Stay well and busy!  Remember, if you get bored, you can always play on Prodigy.  It looks like some of you guys are really acing it!

Assignment week of April 13
Please log into Clever to access Study Island.  I have assigned a review lesson of the Real Number System and Squares and Square Roots. Then there are some practice problems for your review.

When you complete this, if you are bored, I still encourage you to play Prodigy.  It will provide you with 8th grade review as well as spiral review for topics that it finds are difficult for you.

Week of April 13th - Update

I hope everyone had a restful spring break.  I have missed you all dearly!

Starting this week, I will send out optional review assignments for you to complete.  The work I will assign is designed to be stress-free.  I want to provide you with opportunities to continue to review what we have already learned this year.  We covered all our units except probability and statistics, so you are all well-prepared for Algebra next year.  That being said, I want to continue to provide you with opportunities to review previously taught material.  Our schedule will look as follows:

Tuesday –9:00 – 10:30 a.m.:  I will assign a review topic and accompanying assignment.  I will be available through email at this point in time.  I am still working on learning new platforms on which I can interact with you.  (Please note, if you are unable to complete the work at this time because a sibling or parents needs a computer, the work can be completed whenever it is convenient for you.  I am just more readily available at this time to answer questions.)

Wednesday- 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.:  I will be available for office hours for any math/assignment questions.

Finally, the county has extended the third marking period until April 24th, which means grades can be improved over the next two weeks.  If you have an assignment you would like to improve, please email me and I will work with you to come up with a replacement assignment.

March 23, 2020

I hope all of you are staying healthy and positive during this time away from school and have had an opportunity to spend valuable family time together, enjoying each other's company.

My webpage is updated so you have opportunities to review the material we have already learned this year.

If you are not able to complete the work that is recommended, that is okay.  It is most important that you and your family take care of your needs right now.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit the Home Learning page that Prince William County has provided, please do so. It has some optional schedules for students as well as links/suggestions for academics.

The Study Island pretest is still available if you are bored!  It is 30 questions.  If you take the pre-test I will be able to better prepare review material for you.  You can access Study Island through Clever.

Also DreamBox is offering a free 90 day trial to enable you to continue practicing and learning material at home when you sign up by April 30th.  While I personally do not have any experience with DreamBox, I have a friend who is a math coach and loves it.  She uses it with her own child as well as her students.

Finally, this week I would encourage you to continue to play Prodigy.  You get to battle each other!  How can you not be excited for the battles?!?!  Also, content has been assigned for this week.  Everything assigned in Prodigy is from units we have already covered.

Please remember, the most important thing right now is to take care of you and your family.  If you can, go outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather, but make sure you are still socially distancing!  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  Stay healthy!  I miss you all dearly!!!!
