October 17 - October 21, 2016
We are starting new novels this week. Students have assigned reading nightly. Please ask your child what book they are reading and what is their reading assignment. The good news for students is that they are able to choose from several novels.
Thanks for your support in helping your child become a better reader!
In class, we are reading the story, "Ryan and Jimmy and the Well That Brought Them Together."
This is a powerful nonfiction story about a child, Ryan, who dreams of creating wells for people in Africa who are struggling to have clean drinking water. As he works to raise money and awareness, he achieves not only his dream, but also a new friend, Ryan, and connections that have become lifelong and well publicized globally.
Ask your child about this story! I hope they are exited to talk about it.
We continue to work on building vocabulary through word study. This week we review suffixes, prefixes and root words.
Have a great week and please contact me with any questions.
Hello and welcome to 6th grade Language Arts! I am Mrs. Frickenschmidt, and here's a little information about me. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Both degrees are from Columbia College of Missouri. I also have several post graduate hours from Central Missouri State University in education.
My philosophy of teaching includes positive reinforcement and the belief that all students naturally want to learn. I use a variety of methods to reach each child regarding their particular learning style and background.
