We ARE readers! This year we will be reading lots of great books and nonfiction.
We will also be practicing and applying our writing skills! We ARE writers!!
Please use this class page as a tool to help you in your reading, writing, and language arts studies this year and to help you stay organized. Here you will find important information, dates, calendars, and documents related to what we do in class.

Week of 11/14/16
On Monday, students are finishing an activity on figurative language from last week.
Tuesday is library day! Be sure to bring your library books to class, so that you can renew them or check out a new one.
Wednesday - students will receive new vocabulary classwork assignment. Any student who does not finish this in class will need to finish it for homework.
Thursday - We will read "Casey at the Bat" and discuss figurative language, rhyme scheme, and the elements of narrative poetry.
Friday - Vocabulary review/quiz.

Should your child need extra help, please contact me at the
number above and we will schedule after-school sessions. After
the first nine weeks, I will be conducting after-school
sessions to provide your child the opportunity to be successful
in language arts this year.
These sessions may be used:
- to “catch up” on work when absent,
- to receive assistance understanding a concept,
- to get an opportunity to improve a graded assessment.

Seventh Grade Language Arts

I received my Bachelor’s degree (1994) with a double major in English and Psychology from Virginia Tech.
I received my Master’s degree (1997) in English from Virginia Tech with teacher certification in English Education on the master’s level.
Entering my nineteenth year as a classroom teacher, I taught English for two years at a Regional Alternative School, grades 6-12, and seventh grade writing for three years in Amelia County before joining the staff of Rippon Middle School in 2003. I have taught seventh grade language arts/reading at Rippon for fourteen years. I am a National Board Certified Teacher, receiving the certification in 2008.
I have coached drama, volleyball, and softball.
My hobbies are playing volleyball, reading, writing, traveling, theater arts, and spending time with my cats.
