Hello! My name is Carrie Clausen and I am very excited to be teaching 7th grade Life Science this 2016 - 2017 school year! This is my second year teaching at Rippon and my third year teaching overall. I graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and I am currently working on my Master's from Liberty University. I love teaching and working with middle school students. I enjoy their energy and excitement and love to harness that in my classroom! I believe that learning should be active, engaging, and student-driven.
Weekly Update 4/24/2017
This week we are completing Unit 8: Change Over Time (Evolution). We will start by taking notes on the various sources of evidence for evolution...the last set of notes for this unit, so after today students have all the materials they need to begin studying for the exam. On Tuesday we will complete an adaptation lab where students will try to complete everyday tasks without their thumbs, truly getting an appreciation for what an adaptation they are! Wednesday students will learn about the phenomenon of the Manchester Moths and begin reviewing for the exam. Thursday we will play a review game and Friday students will take the exam. There will be a weekly review this week, given out today and due Friday.
I have already begun adding grades for Quarter 4. Please take a look as there are already some students with missing work. It is very important that students stay focused as the year comes to a close. Kids have a tendency to begin to take school less seriously as summer approaches and SOLs wrap-up. Science in 7th grade does not have an SOL so we teach all the way to the end of the year.
Report cards from Quarter 3 should be coming home on Tuesday.
- Thumb Lab (if not finished in class) due Wednesday, April 26th
- Manchester Moth Questions (if not finished in class) due Thursday, April 27th
- Unit 8 Review Sheet comes home April 26th or 27th
- Unit 8 Exam Friday, April 28th
- Weekly Review due Friday, April 28th
