6th Grade and BEGINNERS will be learning:

September- Instrument Selection, distribution, Care, Maintenance & First Sounds

October- Tone production

Nov/Dec-
Fundamentals of reaching music (literacy, notation)


Dec- CONCERT!

Jan/Fed/Mar/Apr- Continued building of literacy fundamentals & tone production at the individual level. Introduction of ensemble skills.

May- CONCERT!

 

 

7thGrade ADVANCED will be learning:

August –Instrument Distribution & Contracts

September – Review of Music Fundamentals (tone production, literacy, musicianship, ensemble skills)

Oct / Nov/ Dec– Improving and expanding musical vocabulary, technique, literacy and musicianship. Includes introduction of scales, rudiments, contrasting articulation, dynamics, new time signatures.

Dec– CONCERT!

Jan / Feb / Mar / April- Improving and expanding musical vocabulary, technique, literacy and musicianship. Focus shifts towardsensemble skillsduring this time.

May– CONCERT

8thGrade ADVANCED will be learning:

August –Instrument Distribution & Contracts

September – Review of Music Fundamentals (tone production, literacy, musicianship, ensemble skills)

Oct / Nov/ Dec– Improving and expanding musical vocabulary, technique, literacy and musicianship. Includes additional scales, contrasting musical styles, phrasing, intonation, balance, articulations and vertical alignment.

Dec– CONCERT!

Jan / Feb– District Assessment preparation. Students are expected to perform cumulative knowledge of concert music at an individual and ensemble level.

March– District Assessment Concert

March / April- Improving and expanding musical vocabulary, technique, literacy and musicianship. Includes additional scale octaves, contrasting musical styles, phrasing, intonation, balance, articulations, vertical alignment and new time signatures.

May– CONCERT
