Hello everyone!

This is my third year teaching at Rippon and every year continues to get better! I love being a teacher here!

I am a 2009 graduate of Virginia Tech. I received my teaching licensure from Mary Baldwin in 2014 and my Master's in English from Hollins University in 2017.

Dearest students and families,

I am so sorry that our school year ended so early.  To my students, please know I throughly enjoyed being your teacher and having you in my class.

There have also been questions about grades. Although PWCS is unable to provide instruction or class assignments to students while schools remain closed, our School Division hopes that the suggestions for optional learning activities posted here will help parents support student learning until schools re-open. Please remember that use of these materials and participation in these activities are OPTIONAL and NOT MANDATORY and neither grades nor course credit will be awarded.

In an effort to make things less overwhelming, here is a sample review schedule to assist in selecting learning goals for the next few weeks: Week 29 (March 23-27) ~ Word Analysis Review Week 30 (March 30-April 3) ~ Drawing Conclusions/Main Idea Review *Week 31 (April 6-April 10) Spring Break- No Review (Enjoy!)* Week 32 (April 13-April 17) *April 13th Teacher Workday-No instruction*  Week 33 (April 20-April 24) ~Text Pattern/Structure Review *or* Retakes
Also, please keep in mind that for a normal school day, although we have hour long periods, it takes 5-10 minutes for students to arrive, get their supplies, and then get seated and complete their warm-up activity. There is also time for lesson instruction and working through examples, class discussion, and clean up. Therefore, overall about 35-40 minutes is the amount of time spent with direct, one-on-one completion  of class materials. Therefore, use this as a time goal going forward for how much time to spend on school work

I would suggest picking one resource to use per day. For example, a weekly schedule could look like this:
Monday- Read Theory (Under "Useful Links," usernames under "Files and Documents/Read Theory")
Tuesday- Study Island (Under "Useful Links")
Wednesday- Quizlet (Under "Useful Links")
Thursday- Newslea (Under "Useful Links")
Friday-Reading Comprehension Review (Under "Files and Documents/Review") or
Writing Assignment ( Under "Files and Documents/Writing") or
Project (Under "Files and Documents/Projects(End of Year")

But please feel free to adjust for whatever works best for you! This is just a guide!

The creative writing prompts and current events reflection writing activities I hope provide the opportunity to further writing skills alongside reading reinforcement.  Also, my students usually find the projects very engaging! If you are looking for something alternative to do content wise, that is still educational at the same time, these may be an option. :)

I hope these materials find you well and help you in your overall Language Arts knowledge and skill building. I will be uploading resources and resource pages and tips every week!

Of course, always be sure to read 20 minutes a day as well! Any book is beneficial as long as you are READING!!!

As always, I hope everyone is staying safe. I do miss you guys and I look forward to seeing you next year!

Please let me know if you have any difficulties, any questions, or of course, if you need anything!

Much love,

Ms. Davis
